Abstract

For the purpose of effective application of orthodontic latex elastic force, measurement was done from the selected 150 samples that were composed of normal and various malocclusion group about the dimension of distance and angle at the state of centric occlusion and mouth opening.
Also initial forces were measured from the 10 kinds of currenting orthodontic late: elastics.
The following results were obtained:
1. The range of distance for the application of orthodontic latex elastics was from 22.2mm to 43.8mm.
2. As the mouth opening was grearer, the increasing rates of distance of Class ¥± elastics were greater than chose of the Class ¥² elastics.
3. At the time of using the intermaxillary elastics, as the mouth opening was greater, the orthodontic forces of occlusal direction were greater than those of mesiodistal direction on the canine and 1st molar.
4. The initial forces of various elastics as to incrasing distanoe, there were almost linear proportional increasing rates with lesser diameter and larger thickness.
